A post! With a meme!

The five things meme where you get given 5 things to talk about then commenters on it get given 5 things and so on...
There's lots of them and they're sparsely populated, but where the people are, they lay fierce claims to Viking heritage, roaring in the streets every January their "ancient" battle songs and burning ships in playparks.
Myself, I'm from the small, but scenic village of Voe, 5 miles from the town of Brae and 18 miles from the capital town - Lerwick (which is where the ferry to the mainland comes from). Voe's at the North end of the biggest island, imaginatively called the "Mainland" of Shetland.
I lived in Mossbank (further north than Voe or Brae) for the first 3 years of my life before we moved to Voe. I went to the Voe Playgroup, Brae Nursery, Olnafirth Primary School (in Voe) and Brae High School.
I've been to most of the inhabited islands at one point or other I think. Though there's far more than that are aren't inhabited or even inhabitable.
Interestingly, Shetland has a varied and ranging geology. It's made up of rocks from all different places and times. I once said that it's essentially the detritus of all the continent shifting. I mean, Shetland's biggest hill has volcanic origins and there's nowhere near Shetland that has volcanoes.
The main exports of the islands are oil, people, sheep and cattle. Not in any particular order, mind. Shetland Salmon'll be on that list as well, and somewhere further down, likely below Fair Isle knitting will be Shetland Fudge. The largest industry in Shetland is tourism - far above anything else, including the oil.
And talking of oil, Shetland hosts Europe's largest oil terminal, now sourcing oil from both the North Sea Oil Rigs and the new Atlantic oil fields (the oil from the atlantic is sources from ships with big drills attached rather than permanent rigs like in the North Sea).
Oh and Shetland Milk is supposed to be really good for you as well.
Any questions?
I like kilts. I love wearing them. The kilt I own is a cheap tourist one because that's all I could afford. :(
It's in the Scottish National tartan because I don't know what tartans I can actually claim if any - I need to talk to my great-aunt about that I think. Keep meaning to get a black one as well - just because. Though apparently that would be an Irish kilt, not a Scottish one.
My sporran (well, my good sporran) is Greenland seal fur backed with genuine leather. It was my graduation present from my parents.
And just to complete things, kilts are in fact a Scottish invention, not an English one as the story says. Wikipedia says so. :) Also, when wearing a kilt, if would be taken off before commencing battle, so a True Scot should be going into battle wearing his shirt, socks and boots at most!
Ah Reb... Or Rebellion O'Vile to give him his full name. I first met him at a Lorien Trust event in 2005, I think. Unless he was at Winter Parliament 2004. We keep getting confused about when we met.
Then there was We Heart Zombies. The zombie horror survival forum-based roleplaying game that Rocker came from. :D It was fantastic fun and Reb was running it. Then after about a year, me and his his mum were running it and he was playing - that turned out different than I expected. :) WHZ was one of the most fun games I've ever played and I do miss it and wish I could just jump back in again, but those days are gone.
I am apparently "like a brother" to Reb which makes it so easy to disturb him. :D On the other hand, he knows more about me than a lot of folks, and its probably the same back, so that feeling's likely well deserved.
If I ever need a speech written about me, I may well tap Reb for the job. Who else is better placed to embarrass me in public?
Fire is good! Fire goes with beer and meat and makes barbeque!
It's mostly a Reb thing that the Fire obsession came from, but I do like fire. It's swirly and burns things.
That and my favourite Norse god is Loki, God of Fire.
There is of course the massive amount of burning that I did in Shetland recently as well as part of Up-Helly Aa, the huge fire festival in Shetland with the afore-mentioned burning of ships in playparks. Well, one ship and one playpark. Ok, so it was two ships in one playpark. But I only burnt one of them!
I likes my LARP. I've been LARPing since November 2004 when I went to the Unicorns Winter Parliament. This is where I met Tree for the first time incidentally. :) I was monstering, got stuck in mud, got pod-shotted with arrows, froze my ass off and had lots of fun! I had a duel with a kid half my age who was way better than me and got one of the snackiest roles I've ever had. I loved it!
In early Spring of 2005, there was a LARP wedding in Edinburgh. A small event, it was where I first introduced my character - Keitro Takre'yd. A half-elf born the unpleasant way, he'd been travelling hunting slavers and pirates looking for his lost love. Who ended up being a Drow. Who'd had his twins during the time she'd been captured by slavers.
I took him to various events, but I never really got into him. A combat mage, he ran into the problems of not having enough ability to take damage because when he wore armour, the enemy invariably ignored it. I eventually retired him at the end of 2006, though his last appearance was at the Unicorns Spring Parliament 2007 where he was beaten bloody in a ritual before being sacrificed the next day in a rite by the evil Abyssal monsters everyone was trying to kill.
That was a wonderful weekend :D
My next character was the wonderfully arrogant Xanthe Vel who believed himself to be a being of immense power and on top of all that, a god. He ~was~ worshipped...
He was arrogant, evil, twisted and got in everyone's face. Everyone wanted him dead. he wasn't expected to last the 6 hours of his first event. But no one did anything about him. Until at the biggest event of the year in 2007, he was knocked out and dragged to the Unicorns enemies - the Tarantulas. He bargained his way out of there and got back to the Unicorns and the next day, got executed for High Treason against the Unicorns because he talked to the Tarantulas (and offered to spy for them). Thing is, he wasn't even a member of the Unicorn nation! He has loyal Unicorns standing up for him and pressing for the Prince-Regent of the Unicorns to hold a vote for his sentence (Exile or Execute). He lost by two because none of his group were there because of plot stuffs happening and disappearing them elsewhere and then taking several hours to resolve. The Prince-Regent wanted to maim him into the floor, but embodiments of Mauritania (the Unicorn lands) stopped him and transported Xanthe to the Plane of Fire instead.
And breathe... My current LT character is Minion Runner (pronounced poncily as "Meen-yon Runn-eer"), Xanthe's High Priest who's made his own deals for dark power. Not that anyone knows about those. But he's done some lovely stuff and tricked an entire Nation into believing fallacy to the point where they were almost after his head as well!
My first Cam thing was the Scottish Regional 2007. I volunteered to help Russell out by NPCing for Requiem and ended up helping out the lovely Fran as well. :D I almost never went back, but Ruth found out about the Lost game starting in Edinburgh and we went along and I haven't looked back. I'm running 9 characters across all 6 venues now! And as well as that, I'm VST Edinburgh Mortals, DST Edinburgh and aANST Mortals (Legacy/Projects)!
Lessee characters I have...
Magellan was my first Cam character. A Darkling Antiquarian (Changeling), he seeks to map the Maze of Edinburgh in its entirety and unlock its secrets. Unfortunately, he's gotten a bit distracted by becoming the Winter monarch and having to rule. Not to mention catching up on all the Winter stuff he didn't know about...
I'm not sure who was next, but it was either Nathan or Spook.
Nathan is my Werewolf - an Elodoth Blood Talon. He's a cop, a seeker of balance and justice who doesn't want to kill, but does want to make werewolves realise they need to pay for what they do - even if it doesn't break a Uratha law.
Spook on the other hand is all human! We think. He's a commando, maybe, with no memory of events that happened a little over a year ago and he's quite insane. In a lovable, knife-wielding maniac way. He is in fact the only one of my Cam characters who has killed someone deliberately. But he's so cute and lovable... And completely psychotic - especially about the girl...
Rocker is a poor Wretched (Promethean) who doesn't know how to express himself properly. He's a tad special and has as many enemies as he does friends. Which is to say 4. Actually I lie, he has 4 enemies and 3 friends. But he knows music. He's a guitarist and he pours himself into his music - and that's how you can find out how Rocker's feeling. He just finds it hard to say things with words...
William is my Vampire. He's 355 years old and was embraced at the age of 26 to a Daeva Invictus in France. Rejecting her ideologies, he was stripped of her protection and left to fend for himself in the streets of Paris where he met Claire, his only true friend.
Henderson on the other hand is friends with lots of people. He just tries not to get involved too much. He's a Mage with a habit of charming people into doing what he wants accidentally. Mostly it's just from his pep-talks, and political speeches, but his passion for such stuff makes it contagious and makes other people want to get involved too!
Laine is my other Changeling - he's a Wizened Chatelaine who refuses to serve anyone but himself anymore. He owns a Hotel in Inverness and business is good at the moment.
Ben is my Ghoul. He's a gardener specialising in Mandragora (ghoul plants), but it seems that he knows more about the Kindred than some Kindred do... He's an old hand having been ghouled several decades now and likes being where he is. Sure, being Kindred would make things easier, but the daylight thing is useful.
And lastly Tal. Short for Taliesin, he's Ishtar's brother and a pain in the neck. Seems he flirts with everyone and everything when he's not partying. He's more than a dab hand at his profession though - he's a Celtic Bard and a good one too. He also helps Ishtar with her stage shows.
So... any questions about all that?
