Too long

People have been telling me to do a real post for ages, and so here it is...

Basically, I quit McDonalds at the end of March. This was to go into the opportunity of "Trainee Sales Manager". Turns out that "Trainee Sales Manager" actually means there's a 6-stage development programme reminiscent of a pyramid scheme that involves 10-11 hour days. Also means I'm self-employed and purely "paid" from the commissions I earn. This has been repeatedly wiping me out in more ways than one.

Today, I went into work, told them I intended to pack it in and as a result am on a leave of sorts while I decide what I want to do. Incidentally, I think McDonalds still have me as an employee on the system because I think Ali's fudging things so her numbers look better. I'm probably going to phone McDonalds HR with my concerns going "I left last month and I'm still getting McTime texts and I know I'm on the rota as being 'on holiday' - want to tell her off?"

So, had a good day today involving much shopping and purchasing of books.

Until I get home from Forsaken that is. Because I take my laptop out of my bag, switch it on and go "why isn't it working?" Screen's fucked. Or the graphics card is. Or something is and the screen is suffering as a result. Either way it seems I have to take it to Comet and go "fix plz". I seem to remember that not going well last time I tried it. May also involve finding the receipt...

ETA: Incidentally, my friends are awesome. Off the top of my head... Rick, Kat and Mags - thanks :D

ETA2: Also, Ruth is uber-awesome

Sounds awfully like the model used by a fabulously exploitative company called "Millenium Marketing" (sic) that I ran afoul of - it was itself part of a larger pyramid scheme.

It was the sort of place where the boss boasted about paying £1,000 in tax that month - and then offered a 50 pence per head incentive to recruit new suckers to join the work-force.

"Trainee Manager" was always the post advertised by it or its various spin-offs. After my brush with them, I learned to rule out any job that didn't quote a confirmed salary range (never "predicted earnings"), and to definitely rule out any job advertisement that didn't clearly state what company it was for....

That sounds about right.

The Group I was with was TheKlub which was a spin off of Cobra (may have actually been Kobra - never got a spelling).

I'd keep quiet about still being on the system if I were you. A manager for the company I work for does the same thing because staff retention affects her bonus. She recently discovered that her long departed staff got paid for all the holidays they hadn't taken at the end of the financial year! You may find you get an unexpected "bonus"!

At McDonalds I'm fairly sure you earn your holiday pay by working there. I still have some holiday pay due to me and I'd rather not wait till November/March to get it...

I can't believe you actually did that! ;o)

Poor Yoda, hope things go better for you soon.

Congratulations, once again. The future can only be better from now on (when you get your laptop back, at least).

I also hope Forsaken was fun.

Good to hear. I have no way of knowing unless people say so.

I went to an interview for something really similar about 5 years ago which said predicted earnings of £17k but I'd have to go door to door selling stuff.

Hopefully things will get better for you.

I have to admit I skip the twitter posts (not just yours every ones)!

I'm just terrible at real posts...

It's exactly that that I've been contracted to do. But I've gone "enough is enough" and am trying to find some other source of income.

Lots of things.

Programming, web development, consulting, explaining tech to non-techs and non-tech to techs, report writing, bullshitting, office work (word processing, spreadsheets), conceptual design, design work but not generally implementation (I can come up with ideas, but suck at graphics work).

Probably more stuff than that as well...
